Consent to Electronic Records and Signatures
Version legal-pages-v1.0
What you are agreeing to
You agree to conduct this matter by electronic means: to receive documents through this portal and by email, and to sign documents electronically through the portal's signing procedure. Under the California Uniform Electronic Transactions Act, Civil Code sections 1633.1 and following, an electronic record satisfies a law that requires a writing, and an electronic signature satisfies a law that requires a signature.
How an electronic signature works here
When you sign, the portal opens a signing session for you, shows you the exact document and acknowledgment text, asks you to confirm the required statements, and asks you to type your full legal name as your signature. The portal records your typed name, the date and time in Pacific time, the IP address of your device, the signing session identifier, the version and hash of the document you signed, and the exact text you saw. That record is written once to the matter's audit log and cannot be changed.
The signing procedure will not open before every requirement for your signature has been met, including the seven-day review period, and no one can shorten it. On a premarital agreement that period is required by Family Code section 1615(c)(2). On an agreement between spouses, which that section does not govern, this office applies the same period as a matter of policy.
Paper copies and withdrawing consent
You may download every document from your portal at any time, and you may ask for paper copies at no charge by writing to the office at the address below. You may withdraw this consent for future documents by writing to the office; withdrawing consent does not affect documents already signed. If you withdraw consent, documents will be provided on paper and signed on paper, and the same legal requirements and review periods apply.
What you need
A current web browser, an email account you control, and the ability to view and save PDF files. If you cannot meet these requirements, contact the office and paper copies will be provided.
