A law firm, not a form

Here the attorney is the service. One California lawyer reads your answers, prepares the agreement, reviews it before it is served, and puts her name and bar number on the record of every step. The fee below is the fee for that work.

What is included

Every service above includes the steps below that apply to it.

An agreement drafted by a California attorney

Not a template with your names dropped into it. Rozsa Gyene reads what you and the other party have provided, prepares the agreement, and reviews it before a copy is served on anyone.

Financial disclosure for both parties

Each of you lists assets, debts and income, with the basis for each value and any supporting document. The platform turns that into a schedule, sends it to the other party, and records the day it was sent and a fingerprint of the file, so it can be shown that nothing was changed afterwards.

A written advisement to the other party

Delivered with the agreement, telling the other party in writing that they may hire their own attorney, or sign a separate writing going ahead without one. This office represents one party. It says so to the other party, in writing, before they read anything.

A seven-day review period the platform will not shorten

The signing screen does not open until the period has run. There is no override and no rush option. On a premarital agreement the seven days are required by Family Code section 1615(c)(2); between spouses, where that section does not apply, the office allows the same period as a matter of policy.

For a party without their own lawyer, a written explanation

The agreement explained clause by clause: what each term does, what it changes from what the law would otherwise do, and what that party is giving up. They then sign a declaration under Family Code section 1615(c)(3) recording that they received it and in what language.

A compliance packet

Every step on the matter, with the day and the time it happened. A fingerprint of every document, so it can be shown that nothing was changed afterwards. A record of who signed what, and from where. And a signed statement from this office that the record is complete. If the agreement is ever questioned, this is the file that answers when each thing was done.

The fingerprint is a SHA-256 hash, and the packet prints it in full for every document.

How it works

Rozsa Gyene is a California attorney and prepares the agreement herself, from your answers. The platform then carries out each step the law sets for a premarital agreement and records the date each one happened, including the seven days that must pass before anyone signs. Five steps, in this order. The platform will not let one begin before the one before it is done.

  1. You sign the fee agreement and pay

The flat fee, by card, bank payment or Klarna, in your portal. It is the first step in your portal, and nothing is charged before you have read the letter and signed it.

The engagement card in the portal, showing the flat fee and the button to read and sign the fee agreement.
  2. You answer questions

About your finances, the other party, and what you want the agreement to do. Plain questions, not a legal form. They open when your matter does, and the office drafts from your answers.

The intake questionnaire in the portal, asking about finances and what the agreement should do.
  3. Both of you disclose

Each party lists assets, debts and income. Each schedule is served on the other party and the service is recorded.

The financial disclosure schedule in the portal, with the declaration under penalty of perjury beneath it.
  4. The office serves the agreement

With the written notice about independent counsel: that they may hire their own lawyer, or waive that right in a separate writing. The seven-day period starts on the day it is served.

The checklist in the portal, each item with the statute it answers to, and the seven-day review period shown as still running.
  5. Both parties sign

Electronically, after the seven days. You receive the executed set and the compliance packet.

The signing screen in the portal, with the served agreement, the acknowledgment text and the field for a typed signature.

A Review of Existing Agreement runs differently. After the fee agreement you upload the agreement you were given and answer a few questions about how it reached you, and the office sends you a written review letter and files the Certificate of Independent Review.

Questions people ask

How much does a prenup cost in California?

It depends who prepares it and how they charge. A template you complete yourself costs less and comes without a lawyer. An attorney working by the hour cannot tell you the total at the start, because the total depends on how long the work takes.

This office charges a flat fee, quoted before you begin: $795 for a premarital agreement, and $995 where the agreement limits or waives spousal support. The fee agreement states what the fee covers and the stages at which it is earned, and any part not yet earned is refundable.

Do we both need our own lawyer?

Not always. This office represents one of you. The other party has two ordinary choices: they can hire their own lawyer, or they can sign a separate writing saying they are going ahead without one. Most people in that position choose one or the other without difficulty, and this office does not advise them which to pick, because it does not act for them.

If the agreement limits or waives spousal support, California law makes that provision unenforceable against a party who was not represented by their own lawyer when they signed. The platform will not let such an agreement be signed by a party without counsel; there is no way to click past it.

Where the other party goes ahead without a lawyer, they receive a written explanation of the agreement clause by clause and sign a declaration recording that they received it.

How long does it take, and how close to the wedding is too close?

The fixed part is the review period: on a premarital agreement at least seven calendar days must pass between the day a party is first presented with the final agreement and the day they sign it. Everything before that depends on how quickly both of you complete your disclosure.

A month is comfortable. Less than two weeks is tight, because disclosure has to be exchanged before the agreement is served and the seven days cannot start until it is. The platform asks for your ceremony date at intake and says plainly whether it leaves enough room. It does not shorten the seven days to fit a wedding.

What happens if the other party will not take part?

Then there is no agreement. A premarital agreement is a contract between two people and both have to sign it. The platform will not serve a final agreement on a party who has not been given the other side's disclosure, and it records only signatures that were actually made.

If the other party stops taking part, the office will tell you where the matter stands. Section 4 of the fee agreement sets out which stages of the flat fee have been earned by then; the rest is refunded.

Is a prenuptial agreement enforceable in California?

Whether a particular agreement is enforced is a question for a court, and nobody can promise you the answer. What can be set out is what the law asks for and what this office does about it.

Family Code section 1615 places the burden on the party seeking to enforce a premarital agreement to prove it was signed voluntarily, and says what that requires: that the party against whom enforcement is sought was represented by independent counsel or waived it in a separate writing; that they had at least seven calendar days between being first presented with the final agreement and signing it; that a party without counsel was given a written explanation of the terms and their effect, in a language they read, and declared they received it; and that nobody signed under duress, fraud or undue influence. Section 1615(a)(2) separately requires fair, reasonable and full disclosure of property and finances before signing.

The platform performs each of those steps in order, refuses to move on until the one before it is done, and records the date and time of each with the documents that were served. That record is what the compliance packet contains. It is evidence of what was done; it is not a prediction of how a court will rule.
